Restoration of 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190
In Silver Arrow Motors’ first year we had the opportunity to restore this 1961 Mercedes SL 190, including a complete rebuild to the engine restoring the brakes, exhaust and clutch. It had been in storage for more than 15 years and required the engine to be removed and disassembled. As a lifelong Mercedes enthusiast and an owner of many models in the past, it was a privilege to work on this iconic, classic roadster. The engine restoration included replacing the piston rings, main and connecting rod bearings and honing of cylinders. The cylinder head valves and camshaft assembly were removed for reconditioning of the cylinder head and finally restoring all the gaskets and seals in the block and cylinder head. Luckily, the car’s body had been cared for in storage and was in remarkably good condition as was the original interior. The original front and rear drum brakes were completely serviced with new brake linings and brake pistons. It was a great joy to see the owner drive away with a smile when the restoration was completed.

1969 Alfa Romeo Spyder
Restoration of 1969 Alfa Romeo
In the summer of 2019, a customer inquired if Silver Arrow Motors could restore a 1969 Alfa Romeo “Spider 1750”. The vehicle had been in storage for 40 years and was now owned by the son of the original importer from Italy. After the car was flat bedded to the shop, work began to remove and disassemble the engine. Although the vehicle body and interior were preserved in close to showroom condition, initial inspection showed evidence there had been a significant build up of calcified crystals throughout the cylinder head and water channels of the block. The engine was completely cleaned as the 40-year rest had turned even the oil to a thick sludge. After the restoration of the engine was complete, the braking system was renewed as was the suspension and a new set of Michelin tires installed. We delivered the car to a happy customer that continues to a have a valued relationship with us!

1988 Mercedes Benz 560 SL
Repair of 1988 Mercedes 560SL
One of Mercedes-Benz’s most recognizable models throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, this 1988 Mercedes 560 SL was a lucky find for the new owner. This customer brought in the 560 SL because of loss of compression on several cylinders. This vehicle had been in storage for several years which combined with the age of the car contributed to degradation of the cylinder head gaskets. After discussing the repair options with the customer, the cylinder-heads were removed and sent for resurfacing and then reconditioned and replaced with new cylinder head gaskets and timing chain and guides.
